2) From REF to TEF TOMORROW, UCU Submission and Second Convention on Higher Education, UCL, Saturday 27th February, 10am-5pm
On all matters Green and White Paper related:
- Don’t forget our Bristol UCU Green Paper-themed From REF to TEF event this Thursday@17:00.
- Our Bristol and Bath UCU statement went forward to UCU Head Office to inform UCU’s submission to the Green Paper Consultation. UCU’s submission should be up on the (new) national website soon.
- On Saturday 27th February, UCL hosts the Second Convention on Higher Education. The Convention is structured around the premises of the Green Paper in order to coordinate a collective collegiate response to it. Sessions are intended to be both informative and participatory.

4)#heartunions week, 8-14 February
Bristol UCU and other campus trade unions will be joining the entire trade union movement for a week of activities in February celebrating the great work done by union reps and members in workplaces and in society and highlighting our rejection of the government’s Trade Union Bill.
5) Classroom Management, 10:00-16:00, TOMORROW, 2D2 Priory Road Complex.
TOMORROW we are hosting a UCU CPD course on classroom management.
This one day course will help you develop strategies for managing student behaviour in the classroom.

6) If you’re not a member we can’t help…
Recent casework has prompted Bristol UCU Executive to revisit our current policy of representing new members who join with a ‘pre-existing’ problem.
National UCU policy is new members cannot receive branch, regional support or UCU legal support if they have a problem which occurred within three months of joining the union. Our current branch policy, in place for several years, has been to represent new members in cases such as conduct, redundancy, performance, ill-health and grievance cases, but to make it clear to the new member that they will not receive UCU regional and/or legal support.
In recent months we have been struggling with the number of cases we have had to support, and Exec feels that we need to align ourselves with national policy and, therefore, not deal with members who only join when they have a problem.
It is a difficult choice for the Executive to make, so we would welcome your thoughts. Please email email@example.com
