About us

Female UCU member outside the University of Bristol Wills Memorial Building

We are an inclusive, open branch that represents our members’ interests with regard to workload, the casualisation of staff, equality issues, academic autonomy and much more!

Bristol UCU has approximately 1,000 members. Together:

  • we’ve secured members’ jobs in the Centre of Comparative and Clinical Anatomy following the threat of redundancy and downgrading
  • we’ve achieved permanent contracts for some of our most precarious staff members in the School for Modern Languages with more to follow across the institution through the hourly-paid teacher (HPT) to Fractional project
  • we’re currently updating the joint trade unions’ University of Bristol Workload Agreement, along with the University

Our caseworkers have dealt with over 60 individual and collective cases in the last year. Nationally, UCU currently represents around 120,000 members in universities and colleges throughout the UK.
